Course
- Open course race of 100 – 500 nautical mile distance.
- Open course means all racers fly the course once (1 lap) sequentially.
Flight Rules
- All flying is done under FAR part 91, VFR.
Operation
- Aircraft are staged into classes based upon engine size and aircraft type.
- Starting positions are determined by maximum aircraft speed; fastest planes take off first.
- 20-30 second delay between departures to minimize passing on the course.
- Turns are monitored by judges to record aircraft course paths.
- Planes are timed as they enter and exit the course.
- Average course speed is determined by time over the known distance.
- No prize money or compensation is awarded.
- Entry fees are minimal and rarely recover the cost in hosting the rally.
- Sport Air Racing League events are not for profit.
